Lisa Hayes

History

Lisa Hayes was my first attempt at making a character with a dress and seeing how the legs could still move freely. I settled on making a portion of the dress on the legs and the main part of the dress hanging down from the front of the body. This allowed some movement while still looking like a dress. Using flat cardboard and paper makes this much easier than 3D.

The ankles were the smallest part on her and it was a challenge not to rip the cardboard when making her feet articulated by punching a small hole through it. This was the main reason for making the figures no smaller than 8 inches as it's much harder to cut out the cardboard with enough detail.

The toy from Matchbox featured Lisa Hayes in an outfit she wore for only 2 episodes where she went off the ship. The toy also had huge man hands that were larger than the male charcters for whatever reason but I was such a big Robotech fan, it didn't really matter. I wanted a toy that matched what she looked like for most of the show. Even years later, Toynami could not get the dress right in their Robotech action figures line. It’s made of a hard plastic so her legs can barely move.
