History

The Star Wars cardboard figures shown were made between the years 1995-1996. The toys released at the time were the Power of the Force Star Wars figures and they all looked a bit off with large muscles like they were wrestlers. Thankfully, the line gradually improved to look normal and I collected many of them.

There were also 12 inch tall Collector Series "dolls" with soft goods clothing but I did not want a doll and the head sculpts did not look great. I was excited for the Black Series when it came out 18 years later at the 6 inch scale with an amazing level of detail.

The detail was really what I was looking for all along. Adding texture and weathering to clothes along with reflections in the armor helped make them look more realistic. The additional detail also added a great deal of time to complete each one. I’ve included images of the toys to show what was available in toy manufacturing technology at the time. I enjoyed making them out of love for the original movies and the Heir to the Empire trilogy of novels by Timothy Zahn.
